Breaking Judge Explains Why Rachael Gunn Scored Zero Points In Her Controversial Olympic Debut

Aussie B-girl Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn became a global sensation and meme legend following her memorable yet debated breaking performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.  Showcasing native wildlife with a kangaroo hop and snake wiggle was… well, a distinctive approach by the 36-year-old academic. Despite receiving zeros across the board, the head judge has now spoken in defense of her breaking artistry.

At a press conference before the closing ceremony, Martin Gilian, the head judge (also known as MGbility), applauded her unconventional kangaroo moves.

“Breaking is about originality, introducing fresh elements, and representing your homeland or region,” he stated.

“This is exactly what Raygun achieved. She drew inspiration from her environment, which in this case, featured a kangaroo.”

Say it louder for the critics in the back, MGbility!

He acknowledged that Raygun’s breaking prowess might not have matched that of her competitors, but emphasized that she earned her spot fair and square.

“This doesn’t imply she performed poorly. She gave her utmost effort. She clinched the Oceania qualifier. Unfortunately for her, other B-girls were superior.”

The judges evaluate breakers based on five criteria, and regrettably, Raygun didn’t score any points. Nevertheless, she captured all our hearts – so who is the true winner here??

The general secretary of the World Dancesport Federation, Sergey Nifontov, also stated that the organization is offering support to Raygun after her dance videos went viral on social media.

“We extended support through our safeguarding officer. We are aware of the situation, particularly on social media, and we must prioritize the athlete's safety, especially their mental well-being,” he remarked.

Despite the overwhelming trolling, it appears Raygun has taken it all in stride.
